Assessment of landscape ecological risk is bas ed on the coupling mechanism between landscape pattern and
ecological process. It study the risk response of the ecosystem structure, the function caused by land use change and provides
a system model for regional ecological security assessment. The region of the Oases in Manas River Basin was chosen as study
area. Based on Landsat Thematic Mapper image data in 2000, 2005 and 2015, the ecological risk index was constructed
through the calculation of the landscape pattern indices. The temporal and spatial distribution map of landscape ecological risk
was obtained using GIS and GS+ software to sample, and then the effect and its characterization were further analyzed . The
results showed that in the past 2000- 2015 years, landscape patterns experienced significant changes; the cultivated land,
construction land and unused land increased; other landscape types reduced, the degree of separation reduced and the degree of
dominance increased. In 2000, the basin was dominated by lower and middle ecological risk zones; high risk areas distributed
in the marginal area of the Northwest River Basin. In 2005, the scope of the lower and middle risk areas expanded,and the
overall ecological environment improved. Compared with 2005, the range of extremely high ecological risk expanded significantly
in 2015, and this mainly distributed in the land reclamation area of the middle and lower reaches of rivers; the range of
moderate risk extended to the East. Between 2000 and 2015, the ecological risk level of the study area obviously decreased,
and total area of high level to low level ecological risk transfer was much higher than that from low level to high level. It is
necessary to improve and manage the degraded ecological environment by by optimizing the the structure and way of land use.
